Two weeks ago, I participated in the Thought Leaders Black Belt retreat in Queenstown New Zealand and as always it was amazing.
I have been a part of the Thought Leaders for about 10 years now. Why? Because the opportunity to be a part of this group of people who are up for stuff, like playing big games in the world is truly inspiring.
Each thought leader is committed to making a difference in the work they do with their clients. The retreat is designed in such a way that we can come together as mentors and colleagues, and we can talk about everything. What’s working, and what’s not working in a safe environment and with like-minded people. We learn from each other.
The Thought Leaders Business School mantra is ‘Do the work you love with people you like the way you want’.
I guess my point is everyone’s got challenges, business and life is not all positive and everyone’s lives are different.
Imagine, 14 business owners at black belt level (black belt is the highest tier within Thought Leaders and is measured as a minimum $720,000 turnover) coming together with a commitment to each other to share and be vulnerable there is a real humaneness to these people, helping others whilst dealing with their own stuff. It was really touching.
We also had a lot of fun. We do fun activities like helicopter rides, jet boating and paddling down the dart river and of course the lovely Platinum villas venue in Queenstown, the food and wine from the lovely restaurants we went to and service are always 10 out of 10. But for me personally, the most value is the people.
My wife and daughter flew over at the end of the retreat and we spent five days together. That is the work life balance for me these days and being a part of Thought Leaders provides these types of opportunities. I feel like we all need something like that. I work with CEOs and senior executive teams and one thing is always clear, they cannot share everything that is going on with them all the time in the workplace.
Who Is Your TRIBE?
A lot of CEO’s join groups like The Executive Connection (TEC) and in those meetings and privately with the Chair, they have access to their very own peer advisory board. Confidential group meetings are guided by an accomplished Chair who provides a safe and stimulating environment to accelerate personal and professional growth.
Again, I just think it’s such a great structure for people to have.
I’m really proud to be in Thought Leaders. They have just had a member sign up who is in their 70’s. It’s a reasonable investment to be involved but the program produces the results.
Do you have a group? If not, I invite you to find a group that is made up of people who may do different things in business and life yet are doing things and committed to making a difference to others. There is real loyalty and the opportunity to contribute and be contributed to is priceless.
